Marike Mingelen

Nadat Marike van 1987 tot 1989 de opleiding aan de Toneelacademie Maastricht heeft gevolgd, studeert zij eerst af in de architectuur geschiedenis aan de Universiteit van Leiden en heeft verschillende banen op diverse plekken. Tien jaar later begint haar acteercarrière als nog. In 2005 richt zij theatergroep Plankgas op. Daar maakt, speelt en zingt ze tot 2013 repertoire voor lokatie- en thuis-theater en de kleine zaal. 

Daarnaast is Marike regelmatig te zien bij de Haagse theatergroep Drang. De vrouw van de ambassadeur (2005), Personeelsfeest (2008), En alle vreugd en rust (2009). Ze ontwikkelt  daar – samen met Kiek Wishaupt – In de blonde engel, een kritisch politieke voorstelling over de drie vrouwen in het leven van Geert Wilders (2012).

Bij De Nieuwe Metropool van regisseur/schrijver Jaap Postma is zij te zien in een drieluik: Camille Claudel (2007), Frida Kahlo (2011) en in de monoloog Maria Callas broken heart/broken voice (première 2013 – reprises 2015 & 2019).

Sometimes an actor’s career does not take the usual trajectory. After Marike studied at the Toneelacademie Maastricht (Institute of Performative Arts) from 1987 to 1989 her life took a different path. She first graduated from Leiden University with a masters in architectural history. After that she had various jobs in various places. But in 1999 the itch to act returned and she went back to her first love: the stage.

She founded the theatre group Plankgas together with three other actresses in 2005. They developed, played and sang for theatre on location and the smaller theatres, often in collaboration with recently graduated directors from the Toneelacademie Maastricht. In 2013 Marike leaves Plankgas.

Between 2005-2012 she also worked regularly with the theatre company Drang located in The Hague. With them she played The Ambassador’s Wife (2005), Staff Party (2008) and All Joy and Rest (2009), plays rooted in socio-political commentary. In 2012 she developed In The Blond Angel, a critical performance about the three women in the life of Geert Wilders, which was directed by Kiek Wishaupt.

For her, writer/director Jaap Postma developed a triptych about tragic female artists: Camille Claudel (2007), Frida Kahlo (2011) and the successful monologue about Maria Callas (2013 & reprises in 2015-2019).

In 2014-2015 she is part of the cast of ANNE, the international play about Anne Frank, as understudy Edith Frank and Auguste von Pels under direction of Theu Boermans.

On screen her greatest success and acknowledgement of her talent came in the internationally acclaimed film The Judgement (2021), directed by Sander Burger. Marike played her first major role alongside Fedja van Huet as television editor-in-chief Gerda van Hof. The Judgement won 4 Dutch Film Awards for best film, actor, supporting actor and best script. The film also won 6 awards at the Seattle International Film Festival, including the Grand Jury Prize. 

In 2022 seen in Tenminste houdbaar Tot, a popular Dutch tv-series & in the family movie Totem, directed by Sander Burger. 

In 2023 appearing in De Vuurlinie, directed by Roel Reiné & in the popular series Oogappels (5), directed by Wil Koopmans.

She had guest appearances in various Dutch TV series and leads in several commercials.
